About El Rio
at El Rio!
Welcome to El Rio! My name is Jim Bassett and my wife is Mickey, and we are the owners of El Rio and American Heroes Deli, in the heart of Bellevue. Married for 40 years and running a business together for 25 years it’s no secret that we are very passionate about our work. My daughter Micole is keeping up the family business alongside us both.
Meet the Chef
at El Rio!
Claudia, the amazing chef at El Rio, has been working for us for over four years. She was born and raised in El Salvador with a family of 12 children always cooking for everyone in her family. Claudia started making pupusas once a week and selling them at the deli. They were a complete hit!
Why El Rio
From there, El Rio was born. Originally named “Claudia’s Papusa Palace”, Claudia has no formal training and all the El Salvadorian food is made from scratch. While she doesn’t have to cook on rocks over an open fire anymore, it is still the most authentic El Salvadrian food around.

Huge shout out to the new Salvadorian restaurant in Bellevue! We got an order to go from there today! The Pupusas and tostadas were amazing! We also had the Shrimp Cocktail! It was off the chain! Fresh, fast, and tasty! Hit this place up!- Facebook Jan.2017

Facebook Review Jan. 2017
This doubled as a review I put up onYelp for El Rio. Made my first stop at El Rio’s this past Sunday. I’d heard really good things about it and wanted to try it myself ordered to go and got a variety of things for my family and I to try. A beef burrito, steak taco, chicken taco, and then 2 pupusas-1 with fried pork, beans, and cheese and the other the same but without the pork. Everything was made-from-scratch and prepared when we ordered.
Finally made it to EI Rio last night! My husband and I love pupusas and were disappointed in the service we received at a different pupuseria in South Omaha last year.We can add our praises to what has already been said about EI Rio! Great service, delicious food – we’re so happy to have authentic Salvadorian food right here in Bellevue, Nebraska. And we never would have known about it if it weren’t for this Facbook page! So, thank you!!
Today our thursday bowling group tried El Rio for lunch. None of us had ever had El Salvadorian food. We really enjoyed it. My pupusas were so delicious and service was spot on! Our server was attentive, and Jim made you feel like family. Looking forword to taking my family back to try it.
